Ductless HVAC Systems in Naples, FL

The standard central air conditioner or heat pump operates as a split system, with an outdoor and indoor unit. The indoor unit connects to ductwork, and a blower fan sends conditioned air through these ducts to destination points around the house.

But this isn’t the only method for heat pump and AC operation. Ductless systems, also known as ductless mini split heat pumps, distribute cooling and heating around a home through a series of smaller air handlers—no need for ducts. Removing ductwork from a central HVAC system offers some excellent advantages.

If you’re curious about installation of a ductless air conditioning and heating system, or you currently have one requiring service, contact Bruno Total Home Performance. We work with ductless mini split systems in Naples, FL and elsewhere in Southwest and Central Florida. How Ductless Air Conditioning and Heating Systems Work

We’ve already described the basic layout of split–system air conditioners and heat pumps. What sets ductless mini split systems apart is that they have multiple indoor units rather than a single unit hooked to ducts. The small air handlers are mounted on the walls of different rooms and connect to the outdoor unit through refrigerant and power lines running through the back of the walls. Each air handler contains its own fan and refrigerant coil, allowing it to send either cooled or heated air directly into the living space. The outdoor unit can operate up to four air handlers. For larger homes, additional outdoor units are necessary.

Advantages of Installing a Ductless Mini Split

Why consider a ductless heating and AC system? They aren’t ideal for all homes, but for many they offer terrific advantages:

  • Lower energy costs: The motorized parts of ductless mini splits are smaller than standard split systems and consume less power. You can expect to pay less for your annual heating and cooling costs.
  • Less heat loss and gain: Another way ductless systems reduce costs is by cutting out the loss or gain of heat through duct walls or leaks in the ducts.
  • Zone heating and cooling: A ductless mini split doesn’t have to condition the entire house whenever it comes on because each of the air handlers can operate separately from the others.
  • Improved indoor air quality: Removing dust–gathering ducts helps a ductless system lower the amount of airborne pollutants circulating through a house.
